read the handblog...10/31/2003My Way of LifeBoo! Did I scare you? Wait 'til you see me in my Gladys Dasher garb.Speaking of scary, have I told you about my long lost twin I found on the East Coast? It's true, Handbaggers, I have a sister who goes by the name of Ryan Landry, and he's the founder of the Gold Dust Orphans. He hails from Boston, he's a writer, model, actress, and does a lot of shows in Provincetown. Now, here's the scary part. And I do mean SCARRIE! He wrote a musical version of Carrie, and it's called SCARRIE! The Musical. It's playing in Seattle this Halloween --that's where our own little Tracy Repep now resides. I wrote a musical parody of Carrie! Remember? I called it SCARRIE! The Musical too! Mine was first ...ahem... He played Joan in a musical version of Johnny Guitar. I played Joan in a western musical based partly on Johnny Guitar. He wrote an adaptation of Hitchcock's The Birds, entitled The Gulls. I wrote an adaptation of The Birds (along with Pauline Pang, our kick ass web mistress/writer/set builder), called... The Birds. He's got a thing for Joan Crawford, has also done shows like The Bad Seed and Baby Jane, and he even sings in a rock and roll band called Space Pussy. Now I have to form a rock and roll band. I think our mothers might have taken the same medication when they were carrying us. How else do you explain this? I've known about him for a while but he finally found me and left a message on our hotline. He sent me a script he's working on for the holidays entitled Who's Afraid of the Virgin Mary?, and it's pretty fucking hilarious. We've decided we need to work on a Dead Ringers type of show together. He's white, but I can pass as white, can't I? Tonight I'm going to see my good friends at Corn Productions perform their annual Tiff and Mom holiday show. If you've never seen a Tiff and Mom show, well, shame on you! Mom is a oversexed, boozy, filthy dame that makes Edina Monsoon look like Mother Theresa and Tiff is her overweight codependent daughter that just wants to be loved. Together, they're living in denial. But that's just the Tiff and Mom way.... The show closes tonight, so you'll have to wait until next year to see them again. posted by David on 10/31/2003 06:53:00 PM | Link |
10/30/2003My Way of LifeHello Handbagger Bloggers! Your trusted Artistic Director/writer/actress reporting from the trenches. We had a wonderful rehearsal yesterday with the ever patient director of Rudolph the Red-Hosed Reindeer, Matt Gunnels, who by the way recently won an After Dark award for his performance in The Hawkshaws. Matt, is full of wonderful ideas for this years production and it's really cool to see him work. Why do they call it the it the 'After Dark' award? Because it's a Gay Chicago magazine thing and they have to make everything sound dirty or nobody will pay attention to it. So..., anyway...., these dances are a bit challenging for some of us. All right, they're challenging for me.I don't know why, me a big 'mo has such trouble with these damned steps. I wasn't very good in sports either, and both require a bit of coordination. Luckily, I am not alone in my dilemma. There are other Nancy boys in the company afflicted by this malady as well. I won't mention any names but it rhymes with Heave Stickson Catch my snow drift? posted by David on 10/30/2003 06:20:00 PM | Link |
10/29/2003My Way of Life...,I want to welcome one and all to the HIAH 'Blog' (you kids and your names) Bloggety Blogger. Those pesky publishers have been after me to write my memoirs for years. Now I can do it my way. Let's see, where to start? How about I give everybody a Rudolph the Red-Hosed Reindeer' update? Would you like that? It's going really well. How's that? You want darts? Oh...., DIRT!!!!Well, there's not a lot of dirt to report since I'm not at a lot of rehearsals. I think it's because I'm Mexican..., I can usually pass for non-Mexican. My mother was a cleaning lady for a famous Hollywood actress and I'll never forget the day she showed up at my school the day I forgot my lunch. I was mortified. People called me 'Tortilla Whore' for the rest of the school year. Where was I? Ah, Rudolph. Rudolph. Rudolph is a lovely name, Rudolph. Our Rudolph is Brannen Daugherty and he's really cute and talented. I would write all about our affair but Chris might see this , plus it's not true. But, what else? Kristen Favernugen is kicking some serious dance butt, the new cast members are super groovy and the old ones are being kept on their toes. We do it all for you!!! posted by David on 10/29/2003 05:29:00 AM | Link |
